TODD SERLIN
ABOUT
Todd Serlin’s work particularly ‘Body Count’ series, revolves around the idea of that we are all connected. Spirits with a consciousness, connected to a soul and a higher self. Serlin’s newest body of work is inspired by the crime scene photographs of Weegee, and street art of Richard Hambleton and Keith Haring. Serlin wants the viewer to experience the work and not just see it. To feel a connection that resonates on a cellular level. Work meant to engage the viewer tapping into his or her own personal experiences as they interpret the intention of the artist. These works are chalk outlines that most people incorporate with dead bodies, but the chalk outlines in Serlin’s work are the mirrored by the artist’s waking life.
‘My art consists of self-portraits. I’m the body in all my chalk outlines. I represent all of us. My images evoke the vastness of my feelings and emotions on any given day: Anger, Disgust, Love, Sex, Fear, Happiness, Anxiety, Sadness, Joy, Shame, Pride, and Disappointment. Art is my therapy, how I connect with my higher self, and my sense of purpose and meaning. - Todd Serlin
